BACKGROUND
As early as the age of seven, Kiana Valenciano was already recognized for her very first pair of Awit Awards—Filipino awards for music excellence equivalent to the US Grammys—for the categories “Best Christmas Recording,” and “Best Child Recording Artist” for “Once Again It’s Christmas Time” in 2000. As she grew up, Kiana briefly sought a career in fashion, having graduated from Raffles Design Institute then capping her style academics in London. In 2015, she took short-term design courses at Central Saint Martins in the UK.
For this particular chapter in her life, Kiana was at first admired by many as a style influencer in addition her natural talent in music. Her eye and natural skill for style led to early collaborations with leading visual artists Daryl Feril and Ken Samudio for a pop-up store campaign called Little White Box. Kiana was chosen by Australian makeup brand “BYS” as their first Filipina brand ambassador in 2016, while partnering as an endorser with top brands such as Oxygen, Converse and Jollibee. As a celebrated cover girl, she’s been been on Scout, MEGA Magazine, Chalk & Rogue Magazine. “Metro Magazine” included her in its prestigious list of women to “watch out for” in 2016. Kiana makes her mark online with more than 90,000 followers on Twitter (@kianavee) and more than 290,000 strong on Instagram (@kianavee).
Despite her growing interest in other lifestyle pursuits however, Kiana never strayed far from her first love—MUSIC—she did cover songs on YouTube while also writing songs of her own. As a recording artist Magic 89.9 named her “Most Promising New Female Singer in 2014” for the duet “With You.” She was chosen to interpret the fun and upbeat love song “Dear Heart”, a finalist for PhilPop 2014, and was awarded the Awit Awards’ Best New Female Recording Artist trophy in 2015. Kiana has performed in concerts in the Philippines and abroad, smashing solo numbers in television shows like The X Factor Philippines, Showtime and ASAP. She’s shared the stage with Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra and also performed live for the Spotify segment of the international DJ Ingrosso at the Pool Club. In the local music scene, Kiana has also performed onstage for Manila X Style and Music Festival for three consecutive years and also toured the United States as a guest artist.
2017 ushered in a new era for Kiana, beginning with the release of her self-composed solo single “Circles.” She continues her stride in the music industry with urban/hip- hop hits like the chart-topping “Does She Know”, cutting edge music videos for her compositions such as “Misfits”, representing the Philippines with a prestigious slot in the 2017 conference “Music Matters” and releasing her first EP entitled “Grey” with music label “Tarsier Records.” Kiana Valenciano drew rave reviews when she released her first composition “Circles” with a video directed by Emmy awardee Mike Carandang.
In 2015, she was recipient of another Awit Award in the Philippines for Best New Female Recording Artist. Kiana’s track “Does She Know” is now nearing 8 million streams on Spotify and it was named as the number one song on the Philippine Top 50 indie singles. It also landed on the Top Ten Pop songs of Spotify as well. The R&B singer-songwriter joined Tarsier Records in 2017 and has since released playlist-worthy tracks from her “Grey” EP, and more recently, her debut album titled “See Me” in early 2019 that bagged her the McMillan Woods Global Award as “Most Promising Female Recording Artist of the Year”. She was nominated again in the Philippines’ 32nd Awit Awards in 2019 for Favorite Female Artist, and performed upon invitation at the 24th Asian TV Awards in January 2020 held at Resorts World Manila.
Kiana currently divides her time between the Los Angeles, California and Manila, Philippines and was invited to perform as a showcasing artist for the first time at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas happening in March 2020. She is a multi-faceted artist, carving her own niche in entertainment locally and across the globe as an award-winning singer-songwriter. Music will always be Kiana’s first love and medium of choice to express herself.
